How do you know that pigs can’t fly?

flying pigThat’s right, Mrs. Butcher, my Grade 5 teacher.  How do you know?  I dare you to prove it to me.  Cuz you can’t.  You can’t prove that something doesn’t exist.

It’s easy to prove something that you can observe.  I can prove to you that birds can fly by simply going outside and finding one.  I haven’t yet found a pig that can fly, so I can’t prove to you that pigs can fly.  However, I also can’t prove to you that pigs can’t fly.  Because maybe there’s one that can but no one has seen it yet.  Got it?

Yeah, wrap your head around that conundrum, Mrs. Butcher.  What’s that?  You don’t understand?  Well maybe that’s because sometimes a Grade 5 student is smarter than his teacher.  But that’s ok Mrs. Butcher.  Shhhhh.  We’ll keep that to ourselves.

Just like you can’t prove to me that God exists, I can’t prove to you that God doesn’t exist.  Have faith.  Maybe one day the flying pig will show itself to us.Trump plane

  1. This what I said in 1997 when I heard about faxing! Since then I believe pretty much everything is possible!

  2. How do you prove that something exists when you haven’t seen it? You can neither prove nor disprove it’s existence, merely hypothesise and carry out experiments which may end up inconclusive.
